Why I started Always Active

"As a mum of three, I found it difficult to find an afterschool service that gave my children plenty of opportunities to be active while also supporting them to get their homework done. I wanted them to have fun, spend time outdoors and come home ready for us to enjoy our evenings together as a family. That experience inspired me to create Always Active, a place designed around what children enjoy and what busy families need."

FAQ

Questions parents ask

What ages do you take?

Children from 4 to 15 years, from junior infants right up through primary and into early secondary.

Which days can my child attend?

Any combination of Monday to Friday during term-time. Pick the days you need when you register your interest and we'll confirm availability.

How does homework support work?

Every afternoon has a quiet, supervised homework time. Our team helps children work through what they've been set and checks it's done. How much gets finished depends on age and the day's workload, so some reading or spellings may occasionally come home to finish together.

How does the National Childcare Scheme (NCS) subsidy work?

The NCS is a Government subsidy paid straight to us, so it comes off your fee. Every child from 24 weeks to 15 years qualifies for the universal subsidy (EUR 2.14 an hour, up to 45 hours a week), and families under the income threshold can get more through the income-assessed subsidy. Not sure which? Try the NCS subsidy calculator. It works in five steps:

  1. Apply for a CHICK. Apply once at ncs.gov.ie with a verified MyGovID (or by post via the Parent Support Centre, 01 906 8530). You get a CHICK code for each child.
  2. Give us the CHICK. Send each child's code to the club when you register.
  3. We register the claim. We register your child against the CHICK for the hours they are booked with us.
  4. You approve the claim. A message arrives in your NCS account; approve it and the award starts.
  5. Your invoice comes down. The subsidy is paid to us and shows as a deduction on every monthly invoice.

More in the NCS FAQs, or ask us and we'll walk you through it.

What happens in bad weather?

We're outside whatever the Wicklow weather, so a coat and a change of shoes are the everyday kit. When it's too wet or windy to be safe we move into the hall for indoor games, sports and crafts, and homework time carries on as normal.

Do you collect from school?

Both clubs run right at or beside the schools we serve. Tell us your child's school when you register and we'll explain the arrangement for that site.

What about the summer?

Full-day Summer Camps run through July and August. The next camp is Summer 2027, register your interest now and we'll be in touch when dates open.

How do I secure a place?
